Nonrecursive Control Design for Nonlinear Systems - Theory and Applications (Hardcover): Chuanlin Zhang, Jun Yang Nonrecursive Control Design for Nonlinear Systems - Theory and Applications (Hardcover)
Chuanlin Zhang, Jun Yang
R3,386 Discovery Miles 33 860 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Based on authors’ recent advances, this book focuses on a class of nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties/disturbances and discusses their typical control problems. It aims to provide a comprehensive view of the non-recursive control theory and application guidelines. Various of applications on the non-recursive synthesis of complex nonlinear systems not only greatly simplify the control design process, weaken the system assumptions, and reduce the conservatism of gain selection, but also realize the essential detachment of control law design and Lyapunov function-based stability analysis. Therefore, different from the classical recursive control design methods, it is of significance to study the synthesis of nonlinear systems from the perspective of a new non-recursive control framework. This book discusses the following typical control problems: theoretical background, homogeneous systems theory review, non-recursive robust control design, non-recursive adaptive control design, non-recursive general dynamic predictive control, disturbance estimation and attenuation, non-recursive stability analysis, implementation theory and real-life applications to Series Elastic Actuators, DC microgrids, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) systems, etc. under the proposed non-recursive synthesis framework. This book will be a great reference to research scholars and students in the field of automation and control. It will also be a useful source for control engineers and those working on anti-disturbance control, nonlinear output regulation, nonsmooth control, and other related topics.

Reliability Modelling and Optimization of Warm Standby Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Rui Peng, Qingqing Zhai, Jun Yang Reliability Modelling and Optimization of Warm Standby Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Rui Peng, Qingqing Zhai, Jun Yang; Translated by Rui Peng, Qingqing Zhai, …
R2,921 Discovery Miles 29 210 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book introduces the reliability modelling and optimization of warm standby systems. Warm standby is an attractive redundancy technique, as it consumes less energy than hot standby and switches into the active state faster than cold standby. Since a warm standby component experiences different failure rates in the standby state and active state, the reliability evaluation is challenging and the existing works are only restricted to very special cases. By adapting the decision diagrams, this book proposes the methodology to evaluate the reliability of different types of warm standby systems and studies the reliability optimization. Compared with existing works, the proposed methods allow the system to have an arbitrary number of components and allow the failure time distribution of components to observe arbitrary distributions. From this book, the readers can not only learn how to evaluate and optimize the reliability of warm standby systems but also use the methods to study the reliability of other complex systems.

Tongbin Chen, Mei Lei, Xiaoming Wan, Xiaoyong Zhou, Jun Yang
R1,345 Discovery Miles 13 450 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book introduces readers to the main theories of phytoremediation and its application to arsenic-contaminated soils in China. The hyperaccumulation theories are introduced, including the use of hyperaccumulators to remove large amounts of arsenic without producing toxic symptoms. The use of synchrotron-based X-ray absorption fine structure radiation to disclose the hyperaccumulation mechanism - a method that makes it possible to detect the elements in plant tissues without destroying the sample - is introduced in detail. This book also includes practical application cases of phytoremediation, which are rarely found in the literature. Allowing readers to gain a thorough understanding of phytoremediation technology, and demonstrating its efficiency in cleaning arsenic-contaminated soils, the book offers a valuable asset for graduate students, lecturers, researchers and engineers in the field of soil remediation.

Protein Conformational Dynamics (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Ke-Li Han, Xin Zhang, Ming-jun Yang Protein Conformational Dynamics (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Ke-Li Han, Xin Zhang, Ming-jun Yang
R6,425 Discovery Miles 64 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book discusses how biological molecules exert their function and regulate biological processes, with a clear focus on how conformational dynamics of proteins are critical in this respect. In the last decade, the advancements in computational biology, nuclear magnetic resonance including paramagnetic relaxation enhancement, and fluorescence-based ensemble/single-molecule techniques have shown that biological molecules (proteins, DNAs and RNAs) fluctuate under equilibrium conditions. The conformational and energetic spaces that these fluctuations explore likely contain active conformations that are critical for their function. More interestingly, these fluctuations can respond actively to external cues, which introduces layers of tight regulation on the biological processes that they dictate. A growing number of studies have suggested that conformational dynamics of proteins govern their role in regulating biological functions, examples of this regulation can be found in signal transduction, molecular recognition, apoptosis, protein / ion / other molecules translocation and gene expression. On the experimental side, the technical advances have offered deep insights into the conformational motions of a number of proteins. These studies greatly enrich our knowledge of the interplay between structure and function. On the theoretical side, novel approaches and detailed computational simulations have provided powerful tools in the study of enzyme catalysis, protein / drug design, protein / ion / other molecule translocation and protein folding/aggregation, to name but a few. This work contains detailed information, not only on the conformational motions of biological systems, but also on the potential governing forces of conformational dynamics (transient interactions, chemical and physical origins, thermodynamic properties). New developments in computational simulations will greatly enhance our understanding of how these molecules function in various biological events.

Data Management in Machine Learning Systems (Paperback): Matthias Boehm, Arun Kumar, Jun Yang Data Management in Machine Learning Systems (Paperback)
Matthias Boehm, Arun Kumar, Jun Yang
R1,533 Discovery Miles 15 330 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Large-scale data analytics using machine learning (ML) underpins many modern data-driven applications. ML systems provide means of specifying and executing these ML workloads in an efficient and scalable manner. Data management is at the heart of many ML systems due to data-driven application characteristics, data-centric workload characteristics, and system architectures inspired by classical data management techniques. In this book, we follow this data-centric view of ML systems and aim to provide a comprehensive overview of data management in ML systems for the end-to-end data science or ML lifecycle. We review multiple interconnected lines of work: (1) ML support in database (DB) systems, (2) DB-inspired ML systems, and (3) ML lifecycle systems. Covered topics include: in-database analytics via query generation and user-defined functions, factorized and statistical-relational learning; optimizing compilers for ML workloads; execution strategies and hardware accelerators; data access methods such as compression, partitioning and indexing; resource elasticity and cloud markets; as well as systems for data preparation for ML, model selection, model management, model debugging, and model serving. Given the rapidly evolving field, we strive for a balance between an up-to-date survey of ML systems, an overview of the underlying concepts and techniques, as well as pointers to open research questions. Hence, this book might serve as a starting point for both systems researchers and developers.
